The Crowell Art Gallery at the Moore Free Library presents "Formations" by Mary Therese Wright, May 3rd to May 28th. Artist reception is this Saturday, May 14, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served.
"Formations", is an exploration of the relationship between color and mass. The means of visual organization in this installation are paintings of landscape and figuration, and composed of paintings in oil, casein and charcoal on newsprint, canvas and rags. Works range in size from several inches to several feet. Artwork will be exhibited using non traditional supports, many canvas pieces will be 'buttoned' to the wall. Wright's interest in found objects, metalsmithing, printmaking and the structural and traditional qualities and use of fabric frees her paintings from traditional framing.
Wright received a Masters in Fine Arts degree in Metalsmithing from Cranbrook Academy of Art and her undergraduate studies focused on printmaking and photography. Wright has spent her adult life as a painter, printmaker, teacher, sculptor, curator and creative community organizer.
