Hi all-

I usually post here as a member of the Selectboard (or when I have extra potatoes, apparently), but today's a little change of pace. I'm announcing my run for State Representative for the Berlin-Northfield district.

I'm kicking off my campaign with an informal “meet and greet” with Northfield and Berlin residents at 7PM on Thursday, June 12th at the Knotty Shamrock Pub at 21 East Street (just off Depot Square) in Northfield.

My primary goal is to reduce the influence of money in the democratic process. People have an expectation that their representatives in government will represent them, and take their interests to heart. When special interests contribute to a political campaign, there’s an expectation that the politician will return the favor. I am pledging to not accept any campaign contributions from corporations or from groups that accept corporate contributions, and I hope that all the other candidates in this race will take the same pledge.

Alongside this, I think that one of the most important steps a representative can take is to seek feedback and act accordingly. During my time on the Selectboard, I have made it a point to take on a little more work and provide all of you with information about what is happening in the Town. I'm very pleased that you continue to respond and tell me what concerns you, and I've taken seriously the responsibility to take those concerns back to the rest of the board. This two-way communication is crucial.
