To help celebrate Arbor Day, on May 24, the Town's Resilient Roads Committee will be joined by Joanne Garton of the Urban and Community Forestry Program for an outside discussion of our town's preemptive strike against the emerald ash borer, an exotic insect pest that is decimating ash trees in many parts of the country, and our initiative to improve management of roadside trees within the road rights of way. The presentation, led by our town tree warden, Paul Cate, will showcase work the road crew, committee members, and contracted arborists have done at U-32 and nearby roads over the last three years. We will be happy to answer questions about emerald ash borer, the threat to your ash trees, invasive plant species, best management practices for roadside trees, and the current effort to develop a town shade tree management plan.
The presentation is open to the public but pre-registration is required. We will meet at U-32 to start. Tuesday, May 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. More information and registration at: https://vtcommunityforestry.org/news/events/arbor-day-eab-and-resilient-roads
