On Monday, May 9 from 7-8:15 pm, the School Board will be holding a virtual community conversation about educational planning for the future of our school district. We need your voice!
There are many things happening in MAUSD right now that have the potential to shape our future. Two towns, Lincoln and Starksboro, have initiated plans to withdraw from the District. There is also a committee that is exploring the feasibility of merging MAUSD with the Addison Northwest Supervisory District (ANWSD) at the middle and high school level. As all of this is happening, the MAUSD School Board continues to discuss and plan for the future of our District. We want to be sure that all of the folks throughout the five towns are informed and also have the chance to provide input throughout this planning process.
The School Board hired an outside consultant, Nate Levenson, to provide an objective, unbiased evaluation of the Superintendent's proposal and six community proposals that attempt to map out a future for MAUSD in light of the reality of declining enrollment. This evaluation is based on core educational values that were identified by our community through a series of conversations in the fall of 2019.
The result was a comprehensive report that the Board is now beginning to look at more deeply. We are interested in hearing your initial thoughts and reactions to this report! At the community meeting on Monday, you will have the opportunity to be in a small breakout group with other neighbors and friends to read a summary of the report, and then share your thoughts and questions with one another.
As we start to get a better understanding, together, of this evaluation of options, the Board will continue to seek community input. Please join us!
