Relocalizing VT, Thursday: Invest in Big Corporations!

Past event
May 5, 2022, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio - A financial advisor warns against investing in local companies, and members of Hunger Mountain Co-op will meet to decide how to run their organization.

9:00 - 10:00 am
Over the years, we've had many interviews with guests advocating more local investment, who have given creative ideas on how to do it. However, Urban Larson of White Pine Advisory specializes in advising clients on how to invest to follow their values—and he advises against investing in local enterprises. We'll hear his arguments for putting your money in big corporations that are doing good for the world, and shying away from local businesses. Expect a spirited conversation!

Hunger Mountain Co-op members will meet next Thursday, May 12, to vote on revisions to the Co-op's bylaws. These are the fundamental documents that dictate how the co-op is run. I chair the bylaw committee, and one of the other bylaw committee members, Jed Davis, will join the conversation. While we'll talk about the specifics of what this food co-op is deciding, we'll also talk more generally about the importance of structuring organizations well. How do you write operating instructions for a co-op that both empower members and enable sound management decisions in a competitive market?

Both interviews will be live, and your phone calls are welcome.
