Shelburne Arbor Day event – and "Big Tree" announcement

Vermont Arbor Day is Friday, May 6th and Shelburne Tree Committee invites you to join us this Saturday, May 7th in celebrating trees.

Have you ever planted a tree? Would you like to plant a tree this Saturday? Would you like an opportunity to get answers to your tree planting and tree maintenance questions? We would love for you to join us at Bay Park (on Bay Road) on Saturday, May 7th (from 10 a.m. to noon) for some tree planting and tree conversation.

• Come plant a tree with us. Bring a shovel if you have one – although there will be shovels available.
• We will be planting 10 bare root trees and hope to use this opportunity for education. So bring your questions too.

Simultaneously, we will be celebrating Shelburne's "Big Tree".

Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program recently released a Vermont "Big Tree" inventory that maps the largest documented specimens of tree species throughout Vermont. Shelburne is included in the inventory with the largest Atlantic White Cedar currently documented in the state. The cedar is located in front of the Pierson Library – and is currently decorated festively. Shelburne Tree Committee members will also be available at the cedar from 10 to noon on Saturday. Come on by and talk trees with us.

The Vermont Big Trees inventory can be found on the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program website as well as on the Shelburne Tree Committee webpage on the Town website.

Browsing the inventory is fun. There are some BIG trees in Vermont!

Happy Arbor Day 2022!
