Dear Neighbor,

The Berlin Pond Watershed Association appreciates the generous community support of our work as a nonprofit to conserve and protect a critical wetland, a parcel once a significant part of the historic Cran- dall Farm. This, our first conservation project, is only the beginning. Moving forward, BPWA will con- tinue to work to protect the Berlin Pond Watershed community. To increase our effectiveness, we would like to invite everyone to be a part of it.

With the help of cosponsor Berlin Conservation Commission, BPWA is preparing to hold its first annual spring membership drive and fundraiser on Saturday, May 14 beginning at 10 am on Mirror Lake Road at the south end of Berlin Pond. The morning will feature presentations on the conservation work cur- rently underway, some history of the Crandall farm, and a guided walk led by ecologist Eric Sorenson, coauthor of Wetland, Woodland, and Wildland and Vermont Fish and Wildlife National Heritage Coordi- nator Everett Marshall. Refreshments will be provided and everyone is welcome.

Those interested in getting in some early morning exercise before the main event can join Eric and Everett for an additional guided walk that will commence at the access area located at the north end of Berlin Pond at 8:45 am, walking to the south end for refreshments and discussion of the conservation effort.

As a community, we have much to celebrate and much still to do. The Vermont Housing and Conserva- tion Board is expected to make an announcement on Friday, May 13 of its financial support of the con- servation project that will make a profound contribution to the process of purchasing, protecting, and transferring these uncommon wetlands to the perpetual care of the city of Montpelier.

The more the community is involved, the more we can accomplish. Signups will be available for those interested in membership in BPWA.

Any questions should be directed to BPWA at bpwa.vt@gmail.com. Further information can also be found on our website at www.bpwavt.org.

Yours in Conservation,
The Berlin Pond Watershed Association
