Songs & Stories from Southern Appalachia

Past event
May 3, 2022, 6:30 to 7:30 PM

Join the Waterbury Public Library for some old-timey music and stories from the southern Applalachian tradition. From the foothills to the peaks, these mountain folks were isolated both culturally and geographically, hence their musical tradition survives the test of time. Steve Lotspeich and Kyle Creason present music from Bascom Lamar Lunsford, "Aunt" Samantha Bumgarner, and Doc Watson here at the library on Tuesday, May 3rd at 6:30 PM.

Check out the library's website here: https://www.waterburypubliclibrary.com/southern-appalachia/ for a sneak preview on the life and times of Bascom Lamar Lunsford, founder of the Asheville Mountain Folk Festival. You'll see clogging, banjo picking, story-telling and of course, old-time country mountain music.

Enjoy live music renditions and stories from Steve and Kyle as they present three of the most important figures in the southern Appalachian music tradition, Tuesday, May 3rd from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Library's SAL room.
