Protect Our Wildlife presents their new family-friendly coyote presentation, called 'All About Coyote Families!' This event is suitable for the whole family, including children. Participants will learn about coyote families, where they sleep, what they eat and what makes them so special. The presentation will address some of the common myths about coyotes in an effort to help people better understand them and promote coexistence. Presentation will be hybrid, online via Zoom and in person in the Bixby Library Community Room. In-person attendees are welcome to join us in the Bixby Community room, Thursday May 19th, 6pm. Find Zoom registrations details here: https://bixbylibrary.org/event/all-about-coyote-families/
The presentation will be led by Sophia Parker. Sophia has been rehabilitating wild birds and mammals with her family since she was a small child. She kept bringing home injured and orphaned animals, and eventually her mom, Julianna, became a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and started the nonprofit Otter Creek Wildlife Rescue. You can learn more about Otter Creek here — they are a licensed 501c3 nonprofit.
In 2015, Sophia was chosen as Miss Vermont's Outstanding Teen, and spent the year traveling across Vermont presenting educational programs for young people about wildlife and the joy of service. In 2018, Sophia joined the Army National Guard as a combat medic. Currently, she is working full-time with the Guard and attending the Castleton University Nursing program.
