The City of Winooski proudly commemorates our centennial and looks to the next 100 years with a special planting of a red oak tree (Quercus rubra) at Richard's Park! Join your friends, neighbors, and members of the Winooski Tree and Centennial Celebration Committees for this momentous occasion. This event will include opening remarks by Deputy Mayor Jim Duncan (Chair of the Winooski Tree Committee) and a Vermont Arbor Day proclamation by Mayor Kristine Lott. A commemorative plaque will be installed in the coming weeks.
In addition, starting May 7, 2022, residents and visitors can take a self-guided tour through the Casavant Natural Area to experience the importance of ash trees in our forests. Ash trees at risk from emerald ash borer will be identified with purple flagging throughout the area along the trail to help them stand out and help us to celebrate their ecological, cultural, and economic importance. Bring your friends and family for this engaging all-ages activity.
