Riparian Buffer Planting at Essex High School

Past event
May 23, 2022, 11 AM to 2:30 PM

The Essex High School STEM Academy needs your help to plant 100 red osier dogwood shrubs to create a riparian buffer along Indian Brook. Riparian buffers are vegetated areas alongside streams that prevent erosion, soak up stormwater, improve water quality, and provide important wildlife habitat. As a state-designated impaired waterway, Indian Brook needs more riparian buffers to help restore its original flow patterns and reduce phosphorus pollution that eventually ends up in Lake Champlain.

Volunteers should meet at the horseshoe area of the parking lot (though parking is available throughout the lot). Bring shovels, mallets, and buckets, as well as sturdy shoes and drinking water.
