Well, if you've been out and about and looking at Knotweed the last few days you may have noticed some little shoots starting to appear. This means that the new Waitsfield Knotweed eradication campaign needs to spring into action soon. Meaningful progress on this campaign will depend on local citizens giving a little time.
If you have some interest in getting involved, Bob Cook and I, from the Waitsfield Conservation Commission, would like to invite you to a planning and orientation session this coming week. We'll explore the various roles volunteers can fulfill, get advice on good times to gather for some regular working sessions during the knotweed growing season (mid-May through mid-September), review the sites we're targeting for attention this year, provide a little background on knotweed and how it spreads and the damage it does to the Valley, and talk about the eradication techniques we'll be employing.
For your convenience we'll be offering an evening session on Zoom this Thursday and a daytime in-person session at Lareau Swimming area on Saturday.
Here are the details on the two options:
* Thursday, April 28 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm on Zoom, at this link-
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/780179794
* Saturday, April 30 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Lareau Swimming area
Kindly email author if you plan to attend either of the sessions.
An email me too if these times aren't good for you and so we can find a time that is, or if you'd simply like learn more about our plans.
Waitsfield will be joining with Warren in this initiative, and benefiting from the experience Warren has gained over the last three years in eradicating Knotweed.
Thanks for considering this opportunity to help address this threat to nature and to the beauty of the Mad River Valley.
