Hey neighbors, Happy Earth Day! Spring has sprung and with mud season comes the perennial exposure of last year's trash on the sides of the roads. If it bugs you as much as it bugs me, there's a solution for us – GREEN UP DAY IS COMING!
That's right – Green Up Day, the annual day of cleaning up the litter along our roads, will happen Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Alchemist, 100 Cottage Club Road. Come on down, grab a bag or two, and help us Green Up Stowe!
Look folks, it's been a long winter. We're hardy Vermonters and we can handle the mud. And we can tolerate the random snow and gray skies. But seeing all the trash along the roadways can just feel like a little too much, amiright?
So, to get you psyched up for Green Up Day, here are my Top 10 Favorite Reasons to Participate in Green Up Day:
10. Get rid of the Covid 19 - Need a little extra workout to shed those extra Covid pounds? Get in your steps – while cleaning up a roadside.
9. Strength-training AND cardio in one workout - they say we should lift heavy things, right? Surely someone will find some tires or spare car parts down in the ditches.
8. Free cider donuts – so maybe you never gained that Covid 19. But when was the last time you had fresh Cold Hollow Cider Mill donuts – is your mouth watering yet?
7. The Alchemist is hosting – longtime hosts Nancy and Rich Haab, owners of Sunset Grille, have retired (congratulations!) and John and Jen Kimmich have stepped up to offer the Alchemist as the new Stowe Green Up Day staging area. Thanks, Jen and John!
6. It's Kid Friendly – what a perfect excuse to get your kids off their devices for a couple hours on a Saturday. Who knows, maybe they'll find a Pokemon! OK, so maybe they won't be totally off their devices.
5. It's Introvert AND Extrovert Friendly – If you love being around other people, get your friends and go out as a group. And if people aren't your thing, go it alone. The trash doesn't care either way.
4. It's great sociology research – I mean, what is it about Twisted Tea that compels people to toss it out the car windows anyway?
3. The fashion – Come on, folks, you know you have been aching for a reason to wear your mud boots and flannel around town. You will fit in completely!
2. No traffic – you won't have to worry about sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic up the Mountain Road on May 7.
1. And the #1 reason to participate in Green Up Day – town pride! No matter what your opinion is of short-term rentals, we can all agree that Stowe is an incredible community to live in. So let's show our town some love and get out there on May 7 to Green Up Stowe!
