Our meeting will begin at 6pm with a work session on redistricting. The point of the work session will be to gather Council input on the types of maps the Council wishes to have drawn for deliberation and constituent and community input. In other words, do Councilors want to see a map with 7 wards, 8 wards, 12 smaller wards; that is the kind of input the city's mapping specialist is looking to gather. It is expected the maps will come back to the Council next month and time will allow for public input and comment before a vote must be taken in the summer in order for us to vote on this Charter change in November.
Following public forum and any climate emergency reports, we will move to our deliberative agenda which includes:
• A communication from the Department of Public Works on the Champlain Parkway project. The Council will be voting on the first contract award for construction to begin this summer.
• A communication from the Department of Public Works on the 2022 Sidewalk Reconstruction Program Project and the approval of the construction contract.
• A communication on the creation of a new position at the Burlington Police Department of a Public Information and Community Engagement Coordinator. This position was one of the recommendations in the CNA report and was endorsed by the Police Commission as a helpful step in building trust, interaction and engagement between the Department and the community.
• The last item is the approval of an MOU between the Emergency Communications Specialists (also known as 'dispatchers') and the City. While the City is engaged in bargaining with all four of our unions, there are challenging concerns with the dispatchers that must be addressed. This MOU comes with the support from the union, AFSCME and the City.

As always, I welcome your questions, concerns, and comments, so please be in touch. Your voice matters and I am grateful for your input.

My best,
Karen
