Worldwide Demographics and Migration Focus of Next Great Decisions Session

Changing worldwide demographics and migrations is the focus of the Great Decisions session at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 24, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. The series is sponsored by the Bennington Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship.

This month's program is the third installment of a five-part series designed to involve the community in discussions about critical foreign policy issues. The April 24 discussion will consider those nations where the birthrate is below replacement and the population is becoming disproportionately aged, as well as migratory pressures, largely from less developed nations to industrial nations and from the southern hemisphere to the northern.

The U.S. population has a healthy age distribution not because of the birthrate, which is below replacement levels, but because of immigration.

The Great Decisions program includes a briefing book with material about each of the selected policy topics, available for purchase at the Foreign Policy Association website. Non-circulating copies are also on reserve at the Bennington Free Library. Each meeting opens with a video presentation by an FPA scholar, followed by a facilitated discussion among participants.

The series takes place at the UU Fellowship, 108 School St., Bennington. Proof of vaccination and masks are required.

The program is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is encouraged for those who did not attend the first two sessions. For information or to register, write to AAUWBennvt@gmail.com.

Future topics include U.S. industrial policy (May 15) and climate change (June 12).
