Hello Neighbors,
"Flash dinners" denote an event that allows people to connect, exchange information a form of social coordination.
Last May, Nick de Tarnowsky of Richmond and a board member of the the Western Slopes Business Association approached Marijke and I about the prospects of a "Flash Dinner" at Windekind. We were honored and intrigued with the idea of hosting an event that would bring a diverse group of people and community leaders from multiple towns to Huntington.
The event has been organized so We wanted to reach out into our community and invite you to join us this Wednesday, the 21st, from 6pm until 8pm at Windekind located at the very end of Bert White Road. Our hope is that this is the start of many "flash" events that bring diverse groups of people together from this very special area of Vermont that includes: Richmond, Bolton, Jericho and Buels Gore or the "Western Slopes" Towns.
The event at Windekind is organized around three locations at the farm, the first one is at the new rental cottage that we have been building, it is called "Campanula" or "little bell" the name of a flower. Because Campanula has a lot of timber frame construction in it, Brian Hays, of Bellwether Craftsman, and lead timber framer on the building will do a short introduction about the timber framing in the building and its applications in Northern Vermont. Our son, Nils, will follow with a short overview of what we are attempting to do with our lodging at Windekind and why we are building structures like "Campanula."
Then we will descend to the farm's main lawn and garden area, the second location, where we will be treated to a grand meal prepared by Huntingtonian Karyl Kent, of New Leaf catering, along with Jazz played by Joe Capps.
Here is an overview of what we can expect to eat:
Tapas Bar at Reception: Marinated Roasted Mushrooms, Herbed Polenta Bites with Manchega, Olives, Crostini with Midnight Farm Chevre and Pequillo Peppers
Salad Station: Local Mixed Spring Greens with Fresh Lemon Thyme Vinaigrette
Entree: Spanish Paella with Andouille Sausage, Chicken and Shrimp
Vegetarian: Spanish Paella with Fennel, Asparagus, Summer Squash and Eggplant
Iced Tea with Mint
Watermelon Lemonade
Huntington River Vineyards selling wine by the glass
After Dinner Sweets: Strawberries and Palmeros (Cookies)
Also, after dinner there will be train rides on Windekind 1/5th size railroad for those so inclined.
