The Brandon Selectboard is reaching out to townspeople in a new effort. Our board meeting agendas are published at www.townofbrandon.com on the Friday before each 2nd and 4th Monday regular selectboard meeting. This is the first in a series of posts on Front Porch Forum to preview known non-routine agenda items in case you have interest in a particular matter and want to contribute your thoughts.
Routine matters at every board meeting include adoption of the minutes of the previous meeting, hearing reports from the town manager and department heads and questioning them, a dedicated time for public comment on non-agenda items, examining and approving bills, occasional purchase orders, finance and budget oversight, and other non-policy items. I will not bother to include routine matters in future FPF posts, as you can assume they will happen at every regular meeting of the selectboard. Public comment is welcome on every agenda item, either before or after board votes.
For the April 11th meeting (7PM, town hall basement), non-routine items include (1) considering election of the standard allowance approach for ARPA; (2) discussion of the town manager's public works / infrastructure project needs and funding sources inventory; (3) consideration of purchase of a new/replacement police cruiser; and (4) an executive session on an employee matter (the annual performance review of the town manager). Public participation is welcome on any matter except during executive session.
You may attend board meetings in-person or by Zoom. Details are at the posted agenda on the town website; this week's full agenda appears here: https://www.townofbrandon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Apr-11-Select-Board-Agenda.pdf
The selectboard is committed to engaging the public in our shared responsibility of self-government. The board has authorized this outreach by the chair. We will not attempt an after-meeting summary post, as the minutes are posted in full on the town website within a week, and most meetings are covered by The Reporter newspaper (Brandon's official newspaper of record) and/or the Rutland Herald.
Respectfully submitted,
Seth Hopkins, chair of selectboard
