On behalf of the MRV Bear Initiative we encourage you to join in this upcoming presentation hosted by VT Coverts:

Habitat Improvements for Vermont's Black Bears:
Steps to make your woodlot and your backyard bear friendly

Black bears are an iconic species in Vermont. Loss of habitat is of great concern for the continued success of our black bear population. Join us as we host Jackie Comeau, VT Fish and Wildlife biologist, who will share about the habitat needs of Vermont's black bears. We will discuss options to improve bear food sources in your woodlot and steps to discourage them from your backyard.

What is the MRV Community Black Bear Initiative?
The Fayston, Waitsfield and Warren Conservation Commissions, Moretown Recreation Committee, Friends of the Mad River, Stark Mountain Foundation and Sugarbush Resort's SEW Committee have formed a committee of volunteers to help address the growing black bear concerns the Mad River Valley has been experiencing over the last few years. Though still in the early stages of planning, the Initiative hopes to develop a centralized web-based education and resource center for the MRV community to learn about black bears in Vermont, develop a community bear ethos about how to live with and protect bears, and increase the community's understanding of how human actions impact and affect bear behavior. Several other presentations are planned over the next few months.
