The 33rd Annual COTS Walk, presented by Rice Lumber, kicks off from Battery Park at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1. Register today – http://give.cotsonline.org/COTSWalk2022
The COTS Walk is the nationally recognized nonprofit's largest annual event and a critical fundraiser to provide shelter, services, and housing to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in Vermont. Last year, COTS served 2,222 people including 352 children.
This year's fundraising event goal is $205,000. Thanks to our generous sponsors, all money raised by Walkers goes directly to services. There is no minimum fundraising required for participation in the COTS Walk. However, walkers can earn COTS Walk T-shirts and other rewards for hitting fundraising goals. For Walkers who elect to go the extra mile by taking the "COTS Walk Challenge" and pledging to raise $1,000, a generous challenge grant will match these donations.
Beginning April 1, COTS is sharing educational, fun, and family-friendly online activities every weekday designed to start and facilitate a conversation around the issues surrounding homelessness. Check these out on their website – https://cotsonline.org/cotswalk/2022.
For the past several years, COTS has selected a Walk theme that centers around the organization's core values and programs. This year's message is "Painting a Picture of Homelessness." The stories of individuals and families facing homelessness share certain details, but as staff get to know guests and connect them with services, each detail comes together to paint varied and unique pictures of homelessness. This year there will be outdoor art installations along the route that paint a picture of homelessness in our community.
Check-in start at 1 p.m. and the Walk kicks off at 2 p.m. The COTS Walk is a 3.5-mile trek (a shorter 1-mile route is available, particularly designed for families with young children) around downtown Burlington that starts from Battery Park and follows the path a person experiencing homelessness might travel to connect with COTS shelter and services. Note: Walkers will not enter COTS buildings, but instead take part in interactive features and installations outside of stops along the route. The Walk includes children's activities, hand painting, music, and free Ben & Jerry's ice cream for walkers.
