Waterbury Center artist Sarah-Lee Terrat will give a preview reading of "Treasure Town", her upcoming chapter book for early readers, at Waterbury Public Library on Tuesday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m.
Terrat illustrated "Treasure Town", which was written by her brother, Doug Wilhelm of Weybridge, an author of The Revealers and 12 other books for young readers. The duo has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to publish Treasure Town on Wilhelm’s independent imprint, Long Stride Books.
“Our book is about three kids in a Florida beach town who are determined to find the buried treasure of Jean Lafitte, legendary ‘king of the pirates’ from the 1800s,” explains Terrat, who has been a full-time artist and illustrator for over 30 years. “We’ve combined the storytelling of a chapter book, the illustrations of a picture book, and fun information about pirate history and geography into a book that kids in grades 1-3 can proudly read on their own.” There’s an urgent need to help kids become strong readers, and grades 1-3 are critical. “Reading proficiency by third grade is the most important predictor of high school graduation and career success,” says the nationwide Campaign for Grade-Level Reading.
We hope you and your children can join us on Tuesday, June 3rd for this FREE event.
