Apple Tree Pruning & Maintenance Event Coming Soon
Are there apple trees on your property that are looking a bit too gnarly? Are you wondering the best way to prune trees on your property? Consider going to an upcoming apple tree pruning & maintenance workshop happening on April 9, beginning at 9 at Muzzy Road Friendship Park in Berlin. This free event is sponsored by the Vermont Woodlands Association and the Berlin Conservation Commission.
VT forester and tree farmer Dave Wilcox will lead the event, teaching on tree health, when and why to prune trees, and how to choose branches to remove. He will also speak on competition within the tree and from other plants that grow around the tree.
"The workshop will be hands on, with the goal of getting people comfortable with making pruning cuts and understanding the principles that I will go over," said Wilcox. "The workshop is oriented to people who want to improve tree health and vigor, as well as increase fruit production."
Participants will have the opportunity to try out Dave's teachings on 15-year-old apple trees that have not been pruned for a long time. Participants are encouraged to bring their own pruning tools and to dress accordingly as the event will take place rain or shine.
