Village Harmony Alumni Ensemble June Concerts in Vermont, Saturday, June 7 in Hyde Park at the Second Congregational Church.

Village Harmony is an umbrella organization based in Vermont dedicated to the study and performance of ethnic singing traditions from around the world. Each summer they sponsor ten ensembles like this one, both in New England and in numerous foreign countries, involving both teen and adult singers.

Each group develops its own unique sound with a different international team of leaders, but all share common traits: a powerful, natural, unrestrained, vocal sound; a remarkable variety of vocal styles and timbres, as appropriate to the many varieties of ethnic and traditional music; and the visible, vibrant community among the singers and audience as they share in a joyous celebration of music.

This unique world music vocal ensemble includes 18 college-aged and young adult Village Harmony veterans, many of whom have sung and traveled with Village Harmony for many years. The program features a large set of Bulgarian and Macedonian songs taught the group by guest leader Tatiana Sarbinska, American shape-note songs and contemporary compositions, South African songs and dances, traditional songs form Caucasus Georgia, and a set of renaissance works.

There is a unique opportunity to meet the ensemble. The church will be hosting a Pot-Luck meal for them at 5:30. If you wish to share a meal and then enjoy the concert, please bring a dish to share. Room is limited to 30 or so. Please drop us a note if you plan to come for the meal. The concert begins at 7:30. Suggested admission at the door is is $10, $5 for students and seniors.
