The New Haven Conservation Commission and the Library invite you to join a community discussion of Douglas Tallamy's book The Nature of Oaks on April 20th at 6:30 pm via Zoom. The book is a page-turner, full of fascinating information about oak trees, birds and insects.
Did you know, for instance, that there are whole colonies of ants so small they can live in acorns? Or to raise one batch of babies, chickadee parents need 6000-9000 caterpillars? That oak leaf litter purifies groundwater? Or that in our area, oak trees support 401 species of butterflies and moths? The book is also full of good information about how to plant oak trees—it turns out it's very easy, and one of the best things we can do for the planet.
Copies of Tallamy's book are available for check out at the library. To register for the program, please email the library or give us a call at (802) 453-4015.
