THE ABENAKI OF UNDERHILL
What: 'In the foothills of Moosehead Mountain: the Underhill Abenakis and the Land' When: Monday March 28 7:00 PM
Presenter: Dr. Frederick M. Wiseman
Where: on-line, link can be found below or refer to Underhill Town Website.

Underhill has been and always will be an important place for the Vermont Abenakis to hunt, fish, gather the bounty of the land and trade with their neighbors. From 6,000-year-old arrowheads turned up by the plow along Brown's river to memories of baskets to Gypsies traveling Route 15 in the early 20th century, and the native ancestry and identity of modern town residents, these traces confirm an enduring Underhill presence of the first Vermonters. Join Professor Fred Wiseman as he shares his research on the Vermont Abenaki experience in Underhill and adjacent areas. Using slides and sharing examples of artifacts, he will discuss history, ecology, and lifeways, including native crops and farming, hunting and fishing, there will be time for questions and answers following the presentation.
