Ukrainian Easter Egg Workshop

Learn how to make beautiful pysanky: easter eggs in the traditional Ukrainian style. Learn about this ancient and beautiful way of ushering in spring and the wax resist technique used to transform a plain egg into an intricate work of art. Participants will learn the symbols, cultural context, and lore behind this ancient craft, while also gaining the practical skills of applying wax with a stylus, dyeing, and revealing their egg design.

About the artist:
Bozena Hrycyna is director of FOLK CAMP, an organization connecting people with the folk arts, crafts, music, and land based traditions of Eastern Europe in the Canadian context. Bozena is an amateur singer, embroiderer, weaver, pysanka maker, and textile craftsperson, actively learning and sharing these artforms from her Ukrainian/Ruthenian heritage. She currently divides her time between the Ottawa Valley and Ottawa.

All materials needed will be provided (eggs, dyes, beeswax, etc.)
Please bring a container to carry your pysanka home.
