I am the co-director of NVU Johnson's spring musical, Hair, and I would like to invite our school's surrounding communities to a behind-the-scenes open rehearsal next week. We will hear from our dramaturg about the historical context of the show. We will see song excerpts and hear from our music director, Stefanie Weigand, and choreographer, Shani Stoddard, about their approach to the music. Our co-director and intimacy choreographer, Laura Roald, will show a scene excerpt to describe what intimacy choreography is. We will also show a scene that originally utilized racist tropes and slurs to highlight our country's racist and violent history. We will show how we are utilizing consent-based directing to bring the acting ensemble into the collaboration process while staging these sensitive scenes. We will then have a discussion between the ensemble, the directors, and the audience about our approach to the show as a whole. Please join us!
