The Ferrisburgh Conservation Commission is working with a group of students from the University of Vermont to begin the process of updating the Town Forest management plan. The plan will be used to help ensure that this portion of Shellhouse Mountain is managed appropriately, which is of great importance for protecting the species that are within the forest. The Town Forest is unique within Vermont, due to it containing two uncommon natural communities (a Valley Clayplain Swamp and two separate Dry Oak Forests).
The students, along with a few members of the Conservation Commission, will conduct a baseline forest inventory and Bio-Inventory (https://www.inaturalis.org/pages/bioblitz+guide) on the property this spring to help inform their update of management of this land. This is a big undertaking, and the students need your help! This "forest field-day" will be held on Saturday, March 19th (time and exact details TBD). While in the forest, we will collect forest inventory data and document the organisms found within the boundaries of the town forest. If you would be interested in participating in the field day on March 19th, or any field day held in the future, please sign up via the following google form: https://forms.gle/twFWfRUZ7ffmxs5w6
Thank you so much for your interest in supporting the conservation of Vermont's wild areas!
