Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio - Working locally with a national and international vision.
9:00 - 10:00 am
Lean Left Vermont is working to defend US democracy (small d) in four battleground states--Wisconsin, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire—by helping elect Democratic (big D) candidates. Organizer Rebecca Davison will explain why they think the stakes in defeating Republicans are so high and how they're working to help Dems win.

The hour's second interview is more topical than I expected when we scheduled it, now that Vladimir Putin has said the world's sanctions against Russia put "the future of Ukrainian statehood" in jeopardy. Peter Russell, author of Sovereignty: The Biography of a Claim will discuss sovereignty of nations as a political activity, including efforts to enshrine sovereignty within international law. Russell does not call for the end of sovereignty but makes readers aware of its limitations. While sovereignty can do good work for small and vulnerable peoples, he argues, it cannot be the basis of a global order capable of responding to the major existential threats that threaten our species and our planet.
