Upcoming Calligraphy Class, see the (way too many 😁) details below if you're interested. March 19 to June 4, a combo of in person (Putney, VT) and online. Check out my website for this class or other services: calligraphybyjorika.com.

BEGINNER/ADV BEGINNER FOUNDATIONAL CALLIGRAPHY CLASS!! I am excited to announce an IN-DEPTH course to both learn and refine your general calligraphy basic skills, via studying and perfecting the Foundational script. This is what got me started in calligraphy, and gave a strong base for learning ANY script: Learn one script in depth, live and breathe it, get those letter shapes and the thick/thin lines just right, find the spirit of the hand, refine your observation skills, find out what to look for to correct your own mistakes, improve your fine motor skills and eye/hand coordination, and discover the rhythm of the hand which leads to consistency/harmony on the page. It's foundational Foundational! I'll push you to be your best, but I'm nice about it. Expect to practice a few hours each week outside of class time, 1/2 to 1 hour per day would be ideal. Practice is the ONLY way to learn calligraphy! (Taught in English, I'm also fluent in ASL.)

Where: In person at Next Stage at 15 Kimball Hill in Putney, Vermont, USA–AND online every other week

When: March 19 to June 4, 2022 (12 weeks) —- Six in person classes, six online tutorials, alternating weeks. In person class schedule: March 19, April 2, April 16, May 1, May 14, June 4. Except for May 1, Saturdays from 11-1 p.m. May 1 (Sunday) 2-4 p.m. (First hour is instruction, second hour optional for practice and feedback.) Online small group tutoring will be set up on alternating weeks for 1-2 weekly hour sessions that accommodate students' schedules.

Supplies needed: 1) A 2.4 mm or 3 mm Pilot parallel pen (or a similar size flat nib with holder), 2) ink, and 3) a smartphone/tablet/laptop with stand so you can live stream your calligraphy for the virtual sessions. I will have the 2.4 Pilot parallel pens for sale at cost ($9), and practice paper and guidelines.

Cost: $75/$125/$175 sliding scale. The regular rate for this class is $125, HOWEVER… Not all of our financial situations are equal, especially true after the economic chaos of the pandemic. So here's my "equalizer" solution, which has worked well in past classes: for those who are financially comfortable please consider being a sponsor for someone who is strapped and pay $130-175, and for those who are strapped for cash please pay what you can from $75-125. If $75 is too high, email me and we'll figure it out. Calligraphy is for everyone, it should not be an elite art form. Paypal, Venmo, personal checks, and cash accepted. Paying in installments is fine.

Registration: Email me at vermontnovus@gmail.com or call/text 802-380-0186. Let me know if you wish to purchase a pen, so I know how many to have on hand. If you are a new student, include a brief description of your calligraphy experience. I expect all students to be either fully vaccinated or have a negative rapid COVID test within 24 hours of any in person classes.
