Opportunities to Lead Conservation Locally

Northwest Vermont Natural Resources Conservation Districts Seek Input on Conservation Priorities and Needs from Local Communities

The Franklin, Grand Isle, and Lamoille County Natural Resources Conservation Districts in partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) are seeking community input to focus outreach activities and cost share programs in the Northwest Zone of Vermont via an online survey and public event.

The online survey can be accessed through March 25th at franklincountynrcd.org/local. In addition to the survey, residents, farmers, farm workers, forest owners, loggers, recreators, and resource professionals from Franklin, Grand Isle, and Lamoille Counties are invited to the Northwest Zone Public Local-Led Conservation Meeting on Tuesday March 22nd from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Valley Dream Farm at 5901 Pleasant Valley Road in Cambridge, VT; RSVP required. RSVP at franklincountynrcd.org/local or by contacting the appropriate Natural Resources Conservation District: Franklin County NRCD; info@franklincountynrcd.org; 802-528-4176. Lamoille County NRCD; Lccddirector@gmail.com; 802-888-9218 ext. 3004. Grand Isle County NRCD; Molly.gicnrcd@gmail.com; 845-323-2153.

The Natural Resources Conservation Districts hope to incorporate the goals and needs of the community into developing priorities for program direction and funding. To do this, input is sought in deciding which environmental concerns, along with their appropriate solutions, are most important for each county. Feedback will be considered by regional professionals in natural resources management and agriculture, as well as incorporated into the NRCS's ranking system for awarding financial assistance to producers.

About Vermont's Natural Resources Conservation Districts

Vermont's Natural Resources Conservation Districts were created by the Soil Conservation Act of 1939. Today, Vermont's 14 conservation districts work directly with landowners, land users, communities, municipalities, and partner organizations to conserve, protect, and use Vermont's natural resources. Vermont's Conservation Districts promote water quality, soil health, and climate resiliency through education, agriculture, forestry, watershed protection, and urban conservation programs.
