A few things stand out about the way Vermont pays for pre-K-12 education: Most Vermonters pay school taxes based on their income, not the value of their homes. And resources from across the state - residential taxes, non-residential taxes, and other sources - are pooled to achieve a basic level of funding equity for taxpayers and students. The system's challenges are its complexity and regressivity. Public Assets Institute will give a brief overview of the funding system and share what a shift to an entirely income-based model would mean for fairness and affordability.
