Let's discuss Denali as a National Park, and the climbers that come to the mountain. During the discussion we will learn the ins and outs of wilderness medicine and the types of medical problems that could potentially happen on mount Denali. As we continue learn about the precautions measures to make, we can also learn how a lot of those problems are ones we would see in the Northeast.
Our speaker: Paul Marcolini
Paul is a Maine paramedic and currently coordinates Quality Improvement for Tri-County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and is a member of their Critical Incident Stress Management Team. He is a Lead Instructor for Wilderness Medical Associates International and teaches medical programs for Acadia Mountain Guides in Maine. Paul worked for many years with Outward Bound in the US, Canada and Kenya. Paul is also a past National Park Service paramedic, and for eight years worked as a volunteer climbing ranger/paramedic and flight paramedic for the National Park Service on Denali, Alaska. In addition to his climbing responsibilities on Denali, he was also the EMS co-coordinator and Quality Improvement Coordinator. He also has taught EMT refresher and rescue courses at Rainier National Park in Washington State, and Acadia National Park in Maine. Paul is an avid climber, skijors with his two huskies and has worked as seasonal climbing guide. Paul lives with his wife Evie in Greenwood, Maine and Thetford Center, Vermont.
