Grand Isle Residents,
The Grand Isle Selectboard will be holding a special meeting this Thursday (Feb 24th) at 6pm at the Town Office as well as via Zoom. Agenda and Zoom link will be posted to the Selectboard page on the Town website (www.grandislevt.org). One item that is on the agenda is discussion/decision about a proposal for a childcare center (Turn to Joy) to occupy the Annex Building on Allen Road, formerly occupied by The Learning Adventure. Yesterday on Front Porch Forum that was a posting about it so I would like to give a summary of two proposals the childcare center has provided to the Selectboard:
Proposal ONE: The childcare center (tenant) would spend up to $25k themselves for renovations to include new flooring, new cabinets and appliances, replacing ceiling tile, fresh paint and window treatments. The tenant as part of these renovations would not pay rent for the first 2 years. Year 3 rent would be $500 per month and year 4&5 would be $750 per month. Tenant during all years would pay utilities, heat, water, cleaning and trash removal. Town would be responsible for plowing and lawn care as well as general maintenance.
Proposal TWO: The Town provides (pays for) renovations listed in option 1 and tenant would pay $750 per month during years 1&2. Years 3,4&5 rent would be $1,000 per month. Tenant would still pay utilities and other items listed in proposal 1 and Town would be responsible for items listed in option 1.
The Annex Building has been vacant since last June when the Learning Adventure left. The Planning Commission has been working to find interested childcare providers to the space and while a few had shown interest there were no serious discussions. The current childcare center (Turn to Joy) has submitted to the Grand Isle Selectboard its two proposals for the space and rental costs for consideration.
All are encouraged to attend the Selectboard meeting this Thursday either in person or via Zoom if there are questions or concerns.
