The Hinesburg Conservation Commission is establishing a natural resources map for the town of Hinesburg, with the help of a consultant. Phase 1 (mostly computer review) has been completed and is available to view at Hinesburg Natural Resources Viewer. Phase 2 includes on-the-ground surveys of wildlife crossing areas, as well as forest block surveys. This is where you come in! To add to the wildlife crossing data, we need some local volunteers who are ready to help survey Hinesburg road sections for amphibian movement in early spring. This will mean getting out with a partner on several rainy spring nights, likely beginning in April. (I will set you up with a partner if you don't have one.) You will drive and walk assigned sections of road, to collect data on what amphibians you see moving there.
Please join me on March 14 at 6:30 PM to learn more about our Hinesburg amphibians (how to identify them, and how to do a road survey). You can then sign up to be a volunteer, and get further training on how to contribute data to our natural resources map!
