The Middlebury Community Music Center is excited to present an online interactive performance and discussion with the renowned Belgian traditional musicians, Hartwin and Ward Dhoore on Saturday, March 12th at 10:00AM EST.
The event is free, open to the public and will be held via Zoom. Register to attend at: https://linktr.ee/mcmc_vt
Hartwin and Ward grew up in a family "where making music was encouraged and folk music was never far away." Hartwin, Ward and their brother Koen for several years comprised Trio Dhoore, an acclaimed Belgian "new trad" trio. Trio Dhoore has received a lot of buzz for their innovative, modern take on traditional folk music, and most recently won the 2021 Best Album award in the Flanders Folk Awards for their album August. Recently, Hartwin and Ward have formed a new duo called Siger and are currently working on their debut album. Hartwin and Ward will join the MCMC community for a one-hour performance and Q & A session, and will discuss their backgrounds, approaches to composing and music making, and building a musical community, among other topics. You won't want to miss this unique opportunity to pick the brains of the next generation's most sought after folk musicians!
Hartwin, a premiere diatonic accordionist, has performed and collaborated worldwide with top folk musicians. A prolific composer, he has released a number of albums including his solo album Waterman and the evocative Estonian-inspired Valge Valgus featuring the Hartwin Dhoore Trio. Hartwin's tunes are melodic, honest and heartwarming.
Ward, a skilled musician focused primarily on string instruments such as guitar and mandola, has similarly collaborated with top folk musicians from around the world. Ward is a member of the acclaimed "post trad" group Estbel, along with his brother Hartwin, Leana Vapper and Sänni Noormets. The group was awarded a 'Golden Disc' at the Estonian music awards for 'Best Newcomer' and has performed throughout Europe at the continent's top traditional music festivals. More recently, Ward has been working with Lander Cardon under the name Zonderland, an audiovisual art project that involves a performance of atmospheric music composed by Ward, with Lander painting artworks in real life based on improvisation and the emotions of Ward's music.
