The Humanist Being Bi-Weekly Virtual Meeting Monday Feb. 21

Past event
Feb 21, 2022, 7 to 8:30 PM

Hi All,

The Humanist Being Burlington Area is a Secular Humanist group in the Burlington Area. We are creating community for those who don't believe in the supernatural and want to live ethical lives and work towards a future. "Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity."

Just a reminder that we'll be meeting (virtually) for our bi-weekly hangout Monday, Feb 21st from 7pm to 8:30 pm on Zoom.

The invite is on our events page on the Meetup Group: https://www.meetup.com/the-humanist-being-burlington-vt-meetup-group/

Some things we'll be discussing include:

- Book Group: When to start it and what book to start with!

- Darwin Day: Who was there? What we did. Who won the prize for best Darwin Costume!

- The Humanist Being is developing our own Calendar of Events to celebrate our Secular Humanist values. We'll look at the events that the THB board has put on the list but we want your input!

- Planning our next in-person event:

- Charitable Work: We are a 501(c)3, non-profit, religious organization. We are allowed to do charitable work as The Humanist Being. Discussion of the work THB has done in the past, what we might want to continue doing, and what you, our community, might want to put effort into.

- General get to know you and hang.

- Google groups for conversations: Jan de Vries has set up a google group for us to share discussions on. We'll share the link if you are interested. We can also discuss if we want to make a FB group too.

- When Humanists Attack!!!: The YouTube channel of The Humanist Being where we do long form interviews with interesting people, reaction videos to interesting videos, and The Art Show - A monthly celebration of humanism with poetry, visual arts, music, singing, and more! Learn more about this program and see if you might want to help. (BTW the name When Humanists Attack!!! is tongue in cheek - Secular Humanists are (generally) pacifists).

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

As my friend Bwambale Robert of the Kasese Humanist School in Kasese Uganda says:

"Through science we can progress!"
