Many thanks to everyone who asked questions and provided comments on the Rural Residential 1 zoning district for last week's Planning Commission meeting! It was super helpful to hear both general comments and specific ideas for the overall district and for particular properties.
The Planning Commission is holding another RR1 listening session at the beginning of their February 23 meeting. The meeting starts at 7pm. Participate in person (with a mask) or remotely via Zoom. Zoom connection info: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85055781467; Meeting ID: 850 5578 1467; Password: 123456. Not a computer person? You can dial in by phone at 1-646-558-8656.
Not a meeting person? You can also email questions and comments to me, and I will forward these to the Planning Commission. Maps and more information on the Town website - https://www.hinesburg.org/planning-commission/pages/rr1-district-zoning
One astute resident wondered if I could share some of the thoughts/ideas already discussed by the Planning Commission. She said, "There are all kinds of thinkers in the world, and not all of us do as well with a blank canvas." Well put! In a nutshell, the Planning Commission is thinking about dividing the RR1 district into smaller, more cohesive zoning districts - each one with its own development potential, minimum size for new lots, setback requirements, development design standards, and list of allowed uses. For example, development potential and types of allowed uses might be greater in areas like the Richmond Road corridor versus the more remote areas.
That's really as far as they've gotten. Before they dive into the specifics, and work up a proposal for everyone to respond to, they really want to hear from landowners and residents about your vision - for your property or the entire RR1 portion of Hinesburg. Sharing your vision will help the Commission calibrate their work. Looking for an actual proposal to react and respond to? Not to worry, we will seek more feedback once the Planning Commission has a proposal together.
