Meet the Candidates for City Council and School Board

Past event
Feb 16, 2022, 6 to 9:30 PM

On February 16th, two Forums will be held to let the public know a little more about the three candidates for the three School Board openings and the four candidates for the City Council's two openings. In advance of voting by Tuesday, March 1st, members of the SBHS Debate Team and resident-volunteers Vince Bolduc and Monica Ostby have organized these two events to give voters a real-time interactive opportunity to get to know the candidates. The sessions will also be recoded for those who cannot attend.

For the School Board, Michelle Boyer is running unopposed for the three year term, and Kate Bailey and Chelsea Tillinghast are each running unopposed for the two remaining two year seats. The two SBHS Debate Team students helping moderate this Forum are Kate Becker and Memphis Everest.

For the City Council, there are two openings sought by four candidates: For the three year term, Tim Barritt (incumbent) is being challenged by Linda Bailey; for the two year term, Meaghan Emery (incumbent) is being challenged by Chris Trombly. The four SBHS Debate Team members who are working on this Forum are: Brooks Balkan, Jared Williams, Ava White and Makenna Cannon.

The event consists of giving each candidate a few minutes to introduce themselves and to explain why they would like to serve the community in this special way. Members of the Debate Team will have worked with the either Monica Ostby (for the School Board Forum) or Vince Bolduc (for the City Council Forum) to come up with a several specific starter questions that the candidates will have seen in advance. Following those Q & A's, the public will be invited to ask their own questions. These will be selected by the students and posed by the moderators.

The Forum for the School Board Candidates will take place at 6:00 P.M. and the Forum for the City Council candidates will take place at 7:30 P.M. Both will take place in the City Auditorium and can be linked as below:
