Winter Tree Identification Workshops

Past event
Feb 12, 2022, 1:30 to 4:30 PM

Greetings,

For anyone looking to meet some trees this winter, there are spaces still available in these 3-hour Saturday workshops hosted by North Branch Nature Center. One this weekend, and another next weekend. Details below. Thank you!

Join Vermont Master Naturalist Alicia Daniel on an outing to learn to identify winter trees as easily as you recognize the faces of your friends. With the hardwood leaves down, winter is a time to tune into more subtle tree characters like bud, bark, silhouette and even scent. On each field trip, we will also look at tree patterns on the landscape and explore what trees can tell us about site conditions like groundwater and soil quality.

Feb. 12 Winter Trees of the North Branch River
Meet at North Branch Nature Center. This session will explore common trees found in the floodplains and riverside forests in central Vermont, including a mix of hardwoods and evergreens.

Feb. 19 Winter Trees of Blanchard Park
This session will focus on common forest trees of central Vermont. Meet outside the Montpelier Senior Activity Center on Barre Street in Montpelier. Parking available along Barre Street.
