The Planning Commission will be holding a hearing on updates to the town's zoning on February 17th at 7 pm. The hearing will be conducted via Zoom, and information on accessing the hearing is available in the warning. You can find information about the hearing, the current and proposed zoning regulations, and a report detailing the changes that are proposed on the town's website: https://eastmontpeliervt.org/february-17-2022-planning-commission-hearing-meeting/
The proposed changes address three main areas:
1. Changes to the zoning for East Montpelier Village needed to implement the vision for the village from the 2018 Town Plan and 2017 Village Master Plan
2. Changes to address changes in statute (areas where the zoning referenced rules or definitions that have been changed at the state level)
3. Changes to address identified issues in the current zoning (eg. setback requirements that in practice were requiring the residents and the Development Review Board to spend an excessive amount of time seeking and granting waivers to allow the construction of sheds)
Further details about all of these changes are available on the town website shown above, particularly in the report explaining the changes.
