The proposed Vermont 2023 Budget includes 100M$ of state money to bring high speed internet service to underserved areas of our state.
In Addison County, these efforts are organized through Maple Broadband (https://www.maplebroadband.net/) which is placing orders for fiber, coordinating with existing utilities on connecting to the utility poles ["make ready"], and contracting with installers for this coming summer and beyond ... but this effort could be delayed by a shortage of trained workers.
If you're interested in communications and networking from the bottom up, there is a FREE four-day credentialing course this Spring at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center to help prepare motivated people to do this work - one day of classroom and three days of practical hands-on training.
Please take a look at the listing here: https://cewd.vtc.edu/course/fiber-installer-technician/
If you have questions about this, please reach out to me or the other Middlebury representatives to the Maple Broadband board: Ross Conrad and Hugh McLaughlin.
Thanks!
