Save the date and plan to join us at the Waterbury Winterfest for a fun-filled family-friendly Biathlon and Orienteering Courses on Saturday, Feb 5, 9-11am.
Green Mountain Adaptive Sports is partnering with Capital Region Nordic Alliance to host this event on a 1.1 km groomed biathlon course (complete with light laser rifles) at the Anderson Event field in Waterbury, Vermont.
Participants ages 7 and up of all abilities are welcome to challenge themselves to the thrill of biathlon, a Nordic skiing event in which the competitors combine cross-country skiing and light laser rifle shooting.
Additionally, this year's event will also include Virtual Orienteering terrain courses, where participants will be provided with an iPhone and the Microsoft Soundscape App (typically used for the visually impaired) to locate virtual orienteering waypoints on the field or in the park. Should be super fun and a great learning experience.
Participants can bring their own cross country ski equipment, or borrow a pair of adult or junior skis, boots, and poles from our fleet. Plenty of adaptive ski equipment will also be available, as well as handicapped parking.
Compete against yourself, or a friend! Try out sit skis used by paralympians and experience the challenge of only using your arms to balance and propel yourself around the course.
