Cherie Jones won the Commonwealth Short Story Prize in 1999. She studied creative writing at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, where she received both the Archie Markham Award and the A. M. Heath Prize. Jones hold an LL.B. degree and was admitted to the bar in Barbados in 1997. She works as a lawyer in addition to writing.
