Past event
Dec 18, 2021, 7:30 PM

Social Band comes out of hibernation for our Deep Midwinter choral concert! Burlington's lively band of singers presents its (usually) annual winter concert amidst the holiday hubbub. The group will put its own, special stamp on the season with carols you may have never heard, contemporary works by Vermont composers, stirring songs from the American shape-note tradition and joyful sing-alongs that allow each and every one of us to sing in community (even if masked).

Saturday, December 18, 2021 ~ 7:30pm
Temple Sinai, 500 Swift Street, South Burlington, Vermont, 05403
Tickets: $18 at the door
Temple Sinai is wheelchair accessible. For more information call (802) 355-4216.

Not familiar with Social Band?

This choral group weaves together poetry and song to create a sometimes thoughtful, sometimes joyful, sometimes irreverent hour of choral music. The group strives to draw upon the strengths of classical and folk traditions and offers a performance that is both refined and a direct expression of feeling – feeding listeners' hearts and heads. Encouraging composition has been part of Social Band's mission from the outset, and much of its repertoire comes from Vermont composers - many of them members of the group. Social Band is directed by Amity Baker.

What should you expect in terms of COVID precautions?

The safety of our audience and singers is of great importance to us. Audience members must wear a mask while inside the venue. While Social Band will be performing without masks, all members have been fully vaccinated and will provide a negative PCR test within three days of the event in order to perform. The performance lasts approximately one hour. Since the mask still hasn't been invented that allows for eating and drinking, we will not have our usual after-concert treats. However, a lucky somebody WILL go home with a raffle pie baked by one of your favorite Social Band members.
