Meeting with Legislators Dec. 9

Please join us this Thursday night, December 9, at 7:30pm - for a meeting with our legislators hosted by Let's Grow Kids Legislative Action Network to stress the urgent need for emergency support of Early Education. We need them to pursue a childcare policy agenda this year that better funds our early education system, supporting our teachers so they can provide safe, enriching childcare that meets the needs of working parents.

Anyone scramble this fall to find reliable full time childcare, amidst pandemic staffing shortages, shortened hours and aftercare closures? I am saddened to see our beloved teachers working 50-60 hours/week, with limited paid vacation and healthcare benefits, to provide safe and enriching care for our kids while not having time for themselves, their own families and their professional development. The result of our current lack of support for Early Education is a fragmented childcare system that requires full time working parents to send our kids to multiple programs to get full time coverage. This isn't sustainable.

Our legislators need to hear from us now! The Legislature has been working on legislation to solve the childcare crisis in Vermont, but at best, that's on the 3-5 year horizon. We need action now to help our childcare providers hire and retain staff, at liveable wages that reflects the value of all they do to provide safe, enriching, consistent, care 5 days a week.

Please join us this Thursday, December 9, at 7:30 pm, over Zoom.
