Ward 1/8 N.P.A. Meeting Dec. 8 - Sharon Bushor Room

Past event
Dec 8, 2021, 7 PM

Hello Neighbors,

A couple important things concerning our Ward 1+8 NPA meeting, to be held in the Sharon Bushor Room at City Hall and over Zoom on Wednesday 12/8 7-9PM.

FIRST: We need to appoint CDBG representatives, one person from each Ward. The Federal Government (HUD) gives Burlington money in the form of a Community Development Block Grant. Burlington does this unique thing where a committee of residents reviews applications and decides how to spend the money Burlington receives. You can be a part of this process!!! The NPA appoints Ward representatives, so if you are interested, please let someone on the Steering Committee know before or at the meeting. You can read more about it below the agenda in this post.

SECOND: we are devoting a significant part of our meeting to a discussion of priorities with our Legislators. While they will have a few minutes to let us know what's on their minds, this meeting is all about your letting them know what's on your minds. Come with questions, comments, issues you care about! We are arranging City Councilor time similarly, limiting it to Q&A – time for you to let them know what is important to you.

And here: Ward 1 and Ward 8 are each looking for civic-minded volunteers to represent us on the CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) Advisory Board beginning January 2022. This volunteer representative will:
• Attend all training sessions and Board meetings (typically 3 or 4, one per month) – about 12 hours total
• Read and rate grant applications – usually around 15 applications, 9 pages each, from local nonprofits – about 8-12 hours
• Develop a balanced budget, taking the amount of money requested and paring it down to fit the amount of money available
• Work with other Board members to develop funding recommendations for the Mayor and City Council
• Report back to the Ward you represent at an NPA meeting

Be seeing you!
Jonathan
