Please join your Community Senior Center of Bolton, Richmond & Huntington for a unique opportunity to learn about the Rokeby Museum, a National Historic Landmark that connects one with the human experience of the Underground Railroad and with the lives of the four generations of Robinsons who lived at Rokeby from 1793-1961.
Join Lindsay Varner, Rokeby's Director, as she shares the story of Rachael Robinson Elmer. Exhibiting artistic talent at an early age, Rachael was at first trained by her parents and then, as a teenager, enrolled in a correspondence course to further her skills. She later studied at Goddard College and the Art Students League of New York. During that time she began her career as an illustrator, producing drawings for her father's books and works for periodicals such as Forest and Stream and The Youth Companion. In this talk—the second of a three part series—you'll see many of the wonderful works produced by Rachael and learn about her growing career in the early 20th century to her death during the 1919 flu pandemic.
