Fun talk about art and geometry titled:
The Platonic solids and the School of Athens
Thursday, November 18, 2021
6:00 PM 7:00 PM
Only 5 forms in 3 dimensions have perfect symmetry. This fact fascinated the ancient Greeks, who placed special significance on these shapes. Insights into form and symmetries connect all subjects and make knowledge of geometry an empowering learning accelerant. This presentation uses a renaissance painting by Raphael titled "The School of Athens" an entry point to learn about these special shapes. Geometric models are used to show the connections, without any need for complicated mathematics. Just bring your curiosity and an open mind!
"Geometry will draw the soul towards truth, and create the spirit of philosophy" –Plato
