It's been 56 years that Calais residents have volunteered to make holiday wreaths for our community buildings and this year we're orchestrating yet another flexible approach to seasonal cheer! We'll continue the tradition of making and hanging wreaths on the public buildings of Calais; including the Town Hall, Town Clerk's Office, Kent Museum, MC Community Store, East Calais General Store, East Calais Post Office, and the Old West Church (a total of 13 wreaths).
You're invited to sign up for a wreath (or more) to be made at home, then hang it on the building you signed up for. We will provide you with a complete wreath making 'kit', with instructions!
Pick up your kit:
Sunday, December 5, 12-2 pm, at the Maple Corner Community Center. We will be outdoors with masks.
The kit will include:
Freshly cut, evergreen boughs, wire circle, twine, a bow, and instructions. The video tutorial created by Hasso and Bob is amazing!
What you will need:
a pair of scissors and pruning snips.
To adopt a town building to 'wreath', please email Katie at katie.lanekarnas@gmail.com or 229-9093 and feel free to mention if there's a particular building you hope to make for.
We will miss being able to gather together in person but hope this Calais tradition will be a spot of fun and beauty and coming together in a different way this year.
Sincerely,
Katie Lane-Karnas, Hasso Ewing and Donna Jerry (along with the tireless crew of evergreen bough-cutters)
