Hope and Love From Burlington Choral Society
Dear Neighbors,
The Burlington Choral Society concert is coming Saturday, November 20, 7:30 p.m. at Elley-Long Music Center in Fort Ethan Allen. Live choral music again!
Composer Don Jamison will be there for the world premiere of There Is a Day, his setting of poems by Wendell Berry to music that will move from the contemplation of a noisy road to a quest for nature's quiet.
BCS artistic director Richard Riley says a line from Berry ("We pray for vision to see in our small imperfect love the Love of the ages, whose green tree yet stands amid the flames.") influenced his choices for the rest of the program: J.S. Bach's cantata "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (Savior of the nations, come)" and two works by the acclaimed young composer Jake Runestad.
Runestad's works are "Let My Love Be Heard" and "The Hope of Loving," inspired by writers from St. Francis to Meister Eckhart. The composer believes that "It is through love, both given and received, that our world can change."
Guest artists will be outstanding string players, organist Jenny Bower, and soloists soprano Sarah Cullins, alto Julie Robbins, tenor Adam Hall and bass Erik Kroncke.
Tickets are available at Seven Days Tickets, and we expect to have them at the door as well.
Of course, COVID is on our minds, and it's good to be singing in the spacious Performance Hall at Elley-Long, where audience members can spread out. Details about our safety policy, as well as directions and parking information are at www.BCSvermont.org.
Hoping to see you in the audience,
Kevin Walker
